Sat, Oct 8 - Qingdao

Saturday, Oct 8 – Qingdao, China
Located along the southern shore of the Shandong peninsula, Qingdao is a community that goes back at least 6000 years. Known as the “Pearl of the Yellow Sea” or the “Switzerland of the Orient”, it does have the potential for much beauty except for two things, pollution and poverty. Seeing the history, culture and people of a place like Qingdao is fascinating, but leaves me very grateful for what I have at home. The two options for tours were to see the German influence including the Governor’s residence and the Tsingtao Brewery or the one we chose which included the Sea Goddess Temple, Qingdao Art Gallery and Small Fish Park. The highlight for me was encountering a wedding as we were walking to the Art Gallery. We were glad that we had chosen a tour. Our dinner mates found language barriers made it difficult to communicate with the locals. Tomorrow we venture out on our own to explore the city of Dalian, China.
